a rectangle has one side equal to (2x+4)cm and a perimeter of (6x+4)cm what is the area of rectangle in terms of x

For convenience let's call the given side the length, so...
l=2x%2B4+
W are also given the perimeter...6x+4 and we for a rectangle, P=2%28l%2Bw%29+
therefore:
2%28l%2Bw%29=6x%2B4+
so we have enough information to solve for w:
2x%2B4%2Bw=3x%2B2
w=x-2
Now we have enough information to solve for area.
A=l%2Aw
so
A=%282x%2B4%29%28x-2%29=%0D%0A2x%5E2-8+cm%5E2

find the area triangle of sides 5cm,6cm,7cm

%0D%0AA=sqrt%28s%28s-a%29%28s-b%29%28s-c%29%29%0D%0A

where the semiperimeter is

%0D%0As=%28a%2Bb%2Bc%29%2F2%0D%0A

a=5, b=6, c=7, s=18/2=9

by substitution and simplification we get
A=6sqrt%286%29

What is the area of a regular octagon measuring 37 m on each side?

The formula for the area of a regular n-gon is
A=%28s%5E2n%29%2F%284tan%28180%2Fn%29%29

where
s is the length of any side
n is the number of sides

A=%2837%5E2%288%29%29%2F%284tan%28180%2F8%29%29
which is about 6610.1 m^2

Find the area of triangle ABC to the nearest tenth if necessary. A= 35 degrees b=3 ft c= 7 ft

the area is found immediately by the formula:
A=%281%2F2%29%2Ab%2Ac%2Asin%28A%29=%281%2F2%29%2A3%2A7%2Asin%2835%29

which when calculated gives: A=6.0 square feet (when you check make sure your calculator is in degree mode)

A rectangle is 3 meters longer than it is wide. If the width of the rectangle is doubled and the length is decreased by 4 meters, the area is unchanged. Find original length and width

A rectangle is 3 meters longer than it is wide. If the width of the rectangle is doubled and the length is decreased by 4 meters, the area is unchanged. Find original length and width

Solution:

l=w+3 so
A=lw=%28w%2B3%29%28w%29=w%5E2%2B3w

After w is doubled and length is decreased by 4,
A=%28w%2B3-4%29%282w%29=%28w-1%29%282w%29=2w%5E2-2w
Now since the area has not changed
w%5E2%2B3w+=+2w%5E2-2w
w%5E2-w%5E2%2B3w-3w+=+2w%5E2-w%5E2-2w-3w
w%5E2-5w=0
w%28w-5%29=0
So width is 0 or 5m
We can discard the 0 solution.
Length is w+3, so length is 8m

Calculating Area

We can see that triangle area can be calculated by finding the vectors associated to points on a plane, computing their cross product, then dividing by 2 (cross products compute area of parallelograms).

Derive Area Formula for a Trapezoid

Use Triangles to derive the formula for a trapezoid

So we denote the trapezoid area as A-sub-T and subtract the area of the small triangle on top from the entire triangle. We can also use the idea of similar triangles to replace parameters from the top triangle.
Finally we rename h-sub-2 as h so that it looks more familiar.
