z/20+1/12=z/15-1/10

z/20+1/12=z/15-1/10

z/20-z/20+1/12+1/10=z/15-z/20-1/10+1/10

5/60+6/60 = 4z/60-3z/60

11/60 = z/60

z=11

Solve: x/6+x/5=7/6

%0D%0Ax%2F6%2Bx%2F5=7%2F6%0D%0A

The common denominator is 30, so we rewrite everything so that they can be added.

%0D%0A%28x%2F6%29%285%2F5%29%2B%28x%2F5%29%286%2F6%29=%287%2F6%29%285%2F5%29%0D%0A

%285x%2B6x%29%2F30=35%2F30%0D%0A

If we multiply both sides of the equation by 30 then simplify we get the following

11x=35

Finally after we divide by 11 we know the value of x
x=35%2F11

solve a basic linear equation

q - 4 = 5

Your Answer:
An equation is a statement that two quantities have the same value. Solving an equation is the process of determining when the equation is true. Clearly we can see that this equation is true when q=9, but in math we "solve" it by following specific rules. In this case we use the property of equality that tells us that whatever we add/subtract to/from one side of the equation is the same as what we do to the other side.

step-by-step:
q-4=5
q-4+4=5+4 <--q would be isolated if we move the 4, it is subtracted so we add a 4
q+0=9 <--- any number added with its opposite results in 0 and 0 added to q is still q
q=9

If 0.05x=20 what is x?

Solution:

0.05x=20

remember: if we divide the left side of the equation by 0.05 to cancel, we also divide the right side to keep the equation balanced.

%280.05%2Ax%29%2F0.05=20%2F0.05

Now that the 0.05 has cancelled, we long divide 20 by 0.05

x=20%2F0.05

x=400
