What are the x-intercepts for the graph of y = x2 + 5x - 6?

We can use grouping to solve this quadratic because it can be factored.

x2+5x-6=0
x2 +6x-x-6=0
(x2+6x)-(x+6)=0
x(x+6)-(x+6)=0
(x-1)(x+6)=0

Next we can use the zero product property

x-1=0
x=1

or
x+6=0
x=-6
