For this example our strategy is to make the bases equal, then we can set the exponents equal:

%282%5E4%29%5E%28x%2B4%29=%282%5E3%29%5E%283x-2%29
2%5E%284%2A%28x%2B4%29%29=2%5E%283%2A%283x-2%29%29
4x%2B16=9x-6
16%2B6=9x-4x
5x=22
so x=22/5
