Write an equation of a hyperbola with the given foci and vertices. foci (+-17, 0), vertices (+-8, 0)

a=8
c=17
b=sqrt%2817%5E2-8%5E2%29=15

therefore
x%5E2%2F64-y%5E2%2F225=1

find an equation of a hyperbola with vertices (+4,0), (-4,0) and foci (6,0), (-6,0)

refer to a text for details, but...
a=4, c=6

so that

b%5E2=c%5E2-a%5E2=36-16=20

and thus...

x%5E2%2F16-y%5E2%2F20=1
